Lena Pernas, PhD | Speaker Announcement

We are pleased to welcome Lena Pernas, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles, as a featured speaker at the International Virtual Conference on Advances in Toxoplasmosis Research.

Dr. Pernas is an emerging leader in immunoparasitology whose research explores how host immune systems integrate environmental and social cues to shape immune responses during infection. Her laboratory investigates how exposure to infected conspecifics can reprogram immune states in uninfected individuals, revealing unexpected layers of immune regulation beyond direct pathogen exposure.

In this talk, Dr. Pernas will present recent findings demonstrating how social sensing of infection alters peripheral immune programming in healthy mice, providing novel insights into immune anticipation, host defense, and population-level immunity. Join the meeting to learn how social environments influence immune readiness and disease outcomes.
