How does HIV remain hidden within infected cells for years, and what triggers its reactivation? Understanding the cellular mechanisms that regulate viral latency is essential for developing strategies aimed at achieving a functional cure for HIV.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Uri Mbonye, PhD Senior Instructor at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, as a speaker at the International Conference on Cell Biology (C-BIO 2026).

Dr. Mbonye’s presentation will explore the complex interplay between HIV and its host cells, focusing on the molecular and signaling mechanisms that regulate viral latency and reactivation. The talk will discuss how T-cell signaling pathways influence HIV persistence and how these pathways may be targeted to eliminate latent viral reservoirs.

Dr. Mbonye is a molecular virologist whose research focuses on HIV transcription, virus-host interactions, and immune cell signaling. His work has advanced our understanding of the mechanisms that allow HIV to establish and maintain latency, providing important insights into potential therapeutic strategies aimed at viral eradication.

His laboratory investigates the molecular regulation of HIV latency, with particular emphasis on host transcriptional machinery, T-cell activation pathways, and epigenetic mechanisms controlling viral gene expression. His research seeks to identify therapeutic targets capable of disrupting latent HIV reservoirs while preserving normal immune function, contributing to next-generation HIV cure strategies.

Join us at C-BIO 2026 to learn how advances in cell signaling and virus-host interactions are shaping the future of HIV research and therapeutic development.
