Speaker Announcement

We are pleased to announce Dr. Madeleine W. Cunningham, PhD, George Lynn Cross Research Professor in Microbiology & Immunology, College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Campus, as a confirmed speaker at the Global Virtual Streptococcus Research Symposium, to be held online on April 27–28, 2026.

Prof. Cunningham’s presentation will highlight ongoing research into autoimmune mechanisms triggered by Group A Streptococcal infection, with a focus on molecular mimicry, anti-neuronal and anti-cardiac immune responses, and their roles in post-infectious sequelae such as rheumatic fever and PANDAS. This work provides critical insight into disease pathogenesis and informs strategies for improved diagnosis and prevention.

Prof. Madeleine W. Cunningham is an internationally recognized leader in the study of infection-induced autoimmunity. Her research has been instrumental in defining immune mechanisms underlying post-streptococcal autoimmune diseases, bridging basic immunology with clinical relevance in neurology and cardiology.

Dates: April 27–28, 2026
Format: Virtual – Eastern Time (US)
