We are pleased to welcome Leo van Grunsven, PhD, Professor, Head of the LIVR Research Group, and Director of the Doctoral School for Life Sciences and Medicine at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, as a Keynote Speaker at the International Conference on Cell Biology (C-BIO 2026).

Valencia, Spain | December 2–4, 2026

This keynote will explore how advanced in vitro mouse-derived systems are being used to model chronic liver diseases, with a focus on replicating fibrosis, inflammation, and complex cellular interactions. The talk will highlight how these models improve mechanistic understanding and support more reliable evaluation of therapeutic strategies.

Prof. van Grunsven is internationally recognized for his work in liver fibrosis and hepatic stellate cell biology. His research has significantly contributed to understanding the mechanisms underlying chronic liver injury and tissue remodeling. As head of the LIVR research group, he leads interdisciplinary research connecting fundamental cell biology with translational applications, and plays an active role in doctoral education and academic leadership.

Leo’s work focuses on developing physiologically relevant in vitro mouse models to study chronic liver disease. His group investigates hepatic stellate cell activation, cellular heterogeneity, and cell–cell communication within the liver microenvironment. A key area of interest is extracellular matrix remodeling and identifying molecular targets for antifibrotic therapies. His research aims to enhance the predictive value of preclinical models and support the development of effective treatments.

Join us at C-BIO 2026 to gain insights into innovative liver disease models and their role in advancing therapeutic research.
