Speaker Announcement
We are pleased to announce Dr. Samuel Shelburne, Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health, Division of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, as a confirmed speaker at the Global Virtual Streptococcus Research Symposium, taking place April 27–28, 2026 (Eastern Time, USA).
Prof. Shelburne’s presentation will highlight recent advances in understanding the CovRS (control of virulence regulatory sensor) two-component system and its central role in regulating Group A Streptococcus virulence. His research examines how CovRS-mediated genetic changes influence bacterial adaptation, immune evasion, and invasive disease progression, providing critical insight into pathophysiology and therapeutic targeting.
Dr. Samuel Shelburne is an internationally recognized physician-scientist whose research focuses on the molecular pathogenesis of bacterial infections, host–pathogen interactions, and translational approaches to infectious disease management. His work integrates clinical insight with microbial genomics to better understand mechanisms driving severe streptococcal disease.
