We are pleased to announce that Dr. Deepak Kaushal, Professor at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed), will be speaking at the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Frontiers in TB & Mycobacteriology.
Prof. Kaushal is internationally recognized for his pioneering work using advanced nonhuman primate models to study TB, HIV, and TB/HIV co-infection. His current research focuses on dissecting the immunological and pathological mechanisms that drive TB reactivation and persistent immune dysfunction in the context of HIV infection, even under effective antimicrobial and antiretroviral therapy.
In this presentation, Dr. Kaushal will discuss recent findings showing that while concurrent TB and HIV treatments can successfully suppress TB reactivation, they fail to fully resolve chronic immune activation, a key contributor to disease progression and poor clinical outcomes. He will highlight how these insights redefine our understanding of TB/HIV co-pathogenesis and underscore the urgent need for host-directed therapies that specifically target immune dysregulation in co-infected individuals.
This talk will provide critical perspectives for researchers and clinicians working at the intersection of TB, HIV, immunology, and therapeutic innovation.
