We are delighted to welcome Dr. Joel Freundlich, Professor of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience and of Medicine at Rutgers University–New Jersey (USA), as a featured speaker at the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Frontiers in TB & Mycobacteriology.
Prof. Freundlich is internationally recognized for his contributions to anti-tubercular drug discovery, with a strong focus on medicinal chemistry, target validation, and translational pharmacology. His research has played a key role in advancing novel therapeutic strategies against drug-sensitive and drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and he has been actively involved in collaborative efforts bridging academia and global TB drug development initiatives.
In this presentation, Dr. Freundlich will discuss recent breakthroughs in the discovery and optimization of KasA inhibitors, a promising class of compounds that target mycolic acid biosynthesis, an essential pathway for mycobacterial cell wall integrity. The talk will cover structure-based design approaches, mechanistic insights into KasA inhibition, and progress in preclinical evaluation. He will also address the potential of KasA inhibitors to contribute to shorter, more effective TB treatment regimens and to combat emerging drug resistance.
