We are pleased to announce that Dr. Amy Barczak, Clinical Investigator and Associate Professor at the Ragon Institute of Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard (USA), will be a featured speaker at the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Frontiers in TB & Mycobacteriology.
Dr. Barczak is a physician–scientist internationally recognized for her work on host–pathogen interactions in tuberculosis, with a particular focus on innate immune defenses and cellular mechanisms of pathogen control. Her research integrates human immunology, cell biology, and advanced imaging approaches to understand how Mycobacterium tuberculosis interacts with and subverts host immune cells.
In this presentation, Dr. Barczak will explore the phagosomal membrane as a critical battleground in TB infection, where host containment mechanisms and bacterial escape strategies dynamically compete. She will discuss recent findings from her laboratory on how macrophages detect and respond to phagosomal damage, how M. tuberculosis manipulates these processes to promote survival, and how variability in these interactions influences infection outcomes. The talk will highlight implications for understanding TB pathogenesis and for identifying new host-directed therapeutic strategies that reinforce immune containment of Mtb.
