Can physical forces influence how a cell defines its own identity?
Growing evidence suggests that mechanobiology and nuclear mechanosensing are key regulators of cellular function, with profound implications for pancreatic β-cell biology and metabolic diseases.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Carla Perego, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacological and Biomolecular Sciences at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, as a speaker at the International Conference on Cell Biology (C-BIO 2026).
Valencia, Spain | December 2–4, 2026

This presentation will explore how mechanical cues from the cellular microenvironment influence pancreatic β-cell identity through nuclear mechanosensing pathways. Dr. Perego will discuss how biomechanical signals regulate gene expression, cellular plasticity, and β-cell function, providing new insights into the mechanisms underlying diabetes and metabolic disorders.
Dr. Perego’s research integrates cell biology, mechanobiology, and metabolic disease. Her work focuses on understanding how mechanical and biochemical signals regulate cellular identity and function, particularly in pancreatic β-cells, with the aim of uncovering new therapeutic opportunities for diabetes.
Her laboratory investigates the role of nuclear mechanosensing, cytoskeletal dynamics, mechanotransduction, and β-cell plasticity in maintaining pancreatic function. By combining advanced cell biology, molecular approaches, and disease models, her research seeks to reveal how changes in the cellular mechanical environment contribute to β-cell dysfunction and metabolic disease.
Join us at C-BIO 2026 to discover how mechanobiology is transforming our understanding of pancreatic β-cell identity and opening new directions for diabetes research.
