Dr. Pereira is a translational scientist whose research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying tissue fibrosis, inflammation, and host responses in infectious diseases. At Stanford University School of Medicine, his work integrates immunology, molecular biology, and advanced translational models to better understand how chronic parasitic infections drive progressive organ damage.
His current research explores the fibrotic pathways triggered during schistosomiasis, with a particular focus on how parasite eggs and host immune responses contribute to liver and tissue remodeling. By identifying key molecular mediators involved in fibrosis progression, his work is uncovering new therapeutic targets that may help prevent or reverse chronic disease pathology.
In this presentation, Dr. Pereira will share emerging discoveries on fibrosis-associated signaling pathways, immune regulation, and translational therapeutic strategies, offering new perspectives for the treatment of schistosomiasis-associated morbidity.
