An insightful presentation by Prof. Hazel M. Dockrell on “Human biomarkers as correlates of protection in TB vaccine trials.”
Prof. Hazel M. Dockrell is Professor of Immunology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Her research focuses on the human immunology of tuberculosis, including immune responses to BCG vaccination and the identification of human biomarkers that may serve as correlates of protection in TB vaccine trials.
Her work has examined human T-cell responses, cytokine responses and gene-expression signatures in relation to mycobacterial infection and vaccination. She has also contributed to research on biomarkers that could support the development and evaluation of new TB vaccines.
A key challenge in TB vaccine development is identifying reliable biomarkers that can indicate whether a vaccine is generating immune responses associated with protection. Research in this area can help with understanding vaccine-induced immunity, assessing vaccine immunogenicity and supporting the design and evaluation of future vaccine trials.
Prof. Dockrell’s presentation brings this important area of immunology and vaccinology into focus, contributing to the scientific discussions at Frontiers in TB & Mycobacteriology 2026.
