Presentation by Dr. Michael Ofori on “Betulin, a compound isolated from Crinum asiaticum bulbs, exerted anti-infective, resistance modulatory and pulmonoprotective effects.”
Dr. Ofori’s research explores pharmacological and natural-product approaches relevant to infectious diseases and pulmonary conditions. His published research has investigated Crinum asiaticum bulbs for anti-tuberculosis, anti-efflux pump, and anti-biofilm activity in vitro.
His work on betulin and Crinum asiaticum has also examined pulmonoprotective effects. A 2023 study by Ofori and colleagues reported that betulin and Crinum asiaticum bulb extract attenuated pulmonary fibrosis in a bleomycin-induced mouse model, with effects associated with reductions in pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic markers.
The presentation brings together these research perspectives on natural compounds, antimicrobial activity, resistance-related mechanisms, and pulmonary protection, contributing to the broader scientific discussion on new approaches in mycobacterial research and therapeutic discovery.
