Plenary Speaker
We are honored to welcome Dr. Klaus Pantel, MD as a Plenary Speaker at the Virtual Liquid Biopsy Symposium on February 10, 2026.
Prof. Pantel is a world-renowned physician-scientist at the Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Germany, and one of the founding pioneers of the liquid biopsy field.
His groundbreaking work on circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has laid the scientific and clinical foundations for modern precision oncology. Together with Prof. Catherine Alix-Panabières, he introduced and defined the concept of liquid biopsy, which has since become a central pillar of cancer diagnostics and disease monitoring worldwide.
Prof. Pantel’s research focuses on tumor dissemination, minimal residual disease, and mechanisms of metastasis and therapy resistance, with a particular emphasis on single-cell analysis of CTCs and blood-based biomarkers. His work has driven the clinical translation of liquid biopsy technologies for early detection, prognosis, treatment selection, and real-time monitoring across multiple cancer types, shaping international guidelines and clinical practice.
In this plenary talk, Prof. Pantel will provide a comprehensive overview of where the field stands today and where it is heading. He will highlight the latest technological advances, clinical applications, and regulatory progress, and discuss how liquid biopsy is transforming cancer management, from early detection and minimal residual disease assessment to therapy guidance and resistance tracking.
