Mechanisms of Staphylococcal Adhesion, Colonization & Early Infection Dynamics

This focused session at the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Staphylococci and Staphylococcal Infections (February 23–24, 2026) brings together leading experts to examine how 𝘚𝘡𝘒𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘀𝘰𝘀𝘀𝘢𝘴 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 initiates infection and adapts across diverse host environments.

Andrew Herr (Cincinnati Children’s Hospital) will present the mechanistic basis of staphylococcal adhesion to human corneocytes; Megan Kiedrowski (University of Alabama at Birmingham) will examine host and microbial factors regulating 𝘚𝘡𝘒𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘀𝘰𝘀𝘀𝘢𝘴 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 aggregation in the airways; Josh Parsons (Duke University Medical Center) will discuss in-host evolution and adaptation of 𝘚. 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 during bacteremia; and Emily Felton (University of South Florida) will characterize a rare hospital-associated β€œSnowbird” MRSA lineage.

Together, these talks provide an integrated view of early adhesion, colonization, and in-host adaptation, highlighting how 𝘚. 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 establishes infection and persists in both community and healthcare settings, insights critical for prevention, diagnosis, and clinical management.

The session will be chaired by Maksym Bobrovskyy (University of South Florida, FL), who will guide the discussion and foster scientific exchange across presentations focused on early 𝘚𝘡𝘒𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘀𝘰𝘀𝘀𝘢𝘴 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 infection dynamics.

Join now to hear from leading experts uncovering the mechanisms that drive 𝘚𝘡𝘒𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘀𝘰𝘀𝘀𝘢𝘴 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 adhesion, colonization, and early infection dynamics.
