Speaker Announcement | Schistosomiasis_Virtual

We are pleased to feature Dr. Jennifer Friedman, Director of the Brown University Health Center for International Health Research (CIHR) at Rhode Island Hospital, as a distinguished speaker at the II Global Virtual Symposium on Schistosomiasis.

June 2, 2026
Online | Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Dr. Friedman is a globally recognized physician-scientist whose research focuses on maternal and child health in the context of neglected tropical diseases, particularly schistosomiasis. She serves as a Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and as Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics.

Her work integrates clinical trials, epidemiology, and implementation science to improve treatment strategies in vulnerable populations. Notably, her research addresses critical gaps in evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of praziquantel treatment during pregnancy, an area historically underrepresented in clinical studies.

Through rigorous randomized controlled trials, she has evaluated maternal and birth outcomes, immune responses, and long-term child health, contributing to evidence-based policy and global treatment guidelines.

In this presentation, Dr. Friedman will share current findings from RCTs assessing praziquantel use in pregnant women, offering key insights into optimizing treatment strategies and advancing equitable care in endemic regions.

Join us for an important discussion at the intersection of clinical research, maternal health, and global health policy.

Stay tuned for more speaker announcements and program updates!
