We are honored to feature Joachim Richter, Professor and Senior Researcher at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, as a distinguished speaker at the II Global Virtual Symposium on Schistosomiasis.
June 2, 2026
Online | Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Prof. Richter is a leading expert in tropical medicine and parasitology, with extensive experience in the clinical management and diagnosis of schistosomiasis. His work has been instrumental in advancing ultrasound-based diagnostic approaches for assessing organ-specific morbidity caused by Schistosoma infections, particularly in endemic regions.
He has contributed significantly to the development and refinement of standardized WHO protocols, including the Basel ultrasound protocol, which provides a critical framework for evaluating hepatosplenic and urogenital disease progression. His research continues to shape clinical practice and global health strategies for disease monitoring and control.
In this session, Prof. Richter will present current insights and applications of the Basel protocol, emphasizing its role in standardizing morbidity assessment, enabling field-based diagnostics, and strengthening schistosomiasis control and elimination efforts worldwide.
Join us for an engaging discussion on diagnostic innovation and global health impact.
