In this talk, Prof. Kana will explore how peptidoglycan amidation, a crucial modification in the mycobacterial cell wall, affects both immune recognition and pathogen survival. He will discuss how disruptions in amidation enzymes influence cell-wall stability and visibility to the host immune system, why these pathways present attractive targets for rational vaccine design, and how altering peptidoglycan structures may improve antigen presentation and strengthen protective immunity. Together, these insights point toward promising strategies for developing next-generation TB vaccines with the potential to surpass the performance of BCG.
