Speaker Announcement | 2nd International Virtual Conference on Staphylococci and Staphylococcal Infections
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Shaun R. Brinsmade, Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor and Co-director of Graduate Studies in the Departments of Biology, Microbiology & Immunology, Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences (Washington, DC, USA), as an invited speaker.
Dr. Brinsmade will present exciting new insights into how S. aureus and E. faecalis cooperate metabolically during co-infection, with a focus on lipid sharing and metabolic cross-feeding. His talk will highlight how interspecies metabolic interactions enhance bacterial survival, virulence, and antibiotic tolerance, reshaping our understanding of polymicrobial infections.
Dr. Brinsmade’s laboratory studies bacterial metabolism and gene regulation in the context of infection, with particular emphasis on how nutrient availability and metabolic networks influence virulence and persistence. His group combines systems biology, metabolomics, and infection models to uncover how metabolic adaptation and interspecies interactions drive disease outcomes and reveal novel therapeutic targets.
