We are pleased to welcome Melissa Lodoen, PhD, Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry at the UC Irvine, as a featured speaker at the International Virtual Conference on Advances in Toxoplasmosis Research.
Prof. Lodoen is an internationally recognized leader in innate immunity and immunoparasitology whose research has shaped our understanding of how the immune system responds to intracellular pathogens. Her laboratory focuses on the biology of myeloid cells, particularly macrophages and dendritic cells, and the molecular pathways that govern their activation, antimicrobial effector functions, and interactions with Toxoplasma gondii.
In this talk, Prof. Lodoen will present recent advances revealing how myeloid cells detect Toxoplasma, coordinate inflammatory signaling, and deploy cell-intrinsic defense mechanisms to limit parasite survival and dissemination. The presentation will highlight how these immune pathways influence disease outcome and offer insights into host-directed therapeutic strategies.
