We are pleased to announce that Dr. Dirk Lamprecht, Chief Investigator of AMR Biology at the H3D Centre (Holistic Drug Discovery and Development), University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, will be a featured speaker at the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Frontiers in TB & Mycobacteriology.
Dr. Lamprecht is a leading scientist in antimicrobial resistance and tuberculosis drug discovery, with a strong focus on identifying and validating novel metabolic vulnerabilities in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. His current research at H3D integrates molecular microbiology, chemical biology, and translational drug development to advance first-in-class targets for next-generation TB therapeutics.
In this presentation, Dr. Lamprecht will discuss recent progress in understanding the essential role of de novo purine biosynthesis in mycobacterial survival and pathogenesis. He will highlight how disrupting this pathway compromises bacterial growth, persistence, and virulence, and how his team is leveraging these insights to develop small-molecule inhibitors with potent anti-TB activity. The talk will emphasize the potential of purine metabolism as a druggable vulnerability and its promise for combating drug-resistant and persistent forms of TB.
